Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island, which is known as West Island. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. They often believe it's an island to the that lies west of Montreal However, the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently mentioned, but her brief time in the city wasn't. Brugel was an aspiring young lady living in Courtice Ontario, outside Oshawa. Early ambitions were to become a dancer. But, a growing rate increased her height and she outgrew her dance partners she was able to have. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. After I became too big for my male companions, I quit. There are many dancers who make the move into acting. In the case of Bruce, it was her drama teacher who nudged her in that direction. Her teacher invited her to take part in an audition in her school's production. After trying out the role, she was chosen as the main character for Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions on both small and large screens. She attracted the most media attention after she was offered the part in the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actor in the season 1 and was only seen occasionally.
